“Camp Lē‘ahi” is a song Eric composed for the Camp Lē‘ahi summer program,
where he teaches music to nearly 200 children each summer!
For the first 19 years of Camp Lē‘ahi, the program was held at La Pietra -
Hawaii School for Girls (don't let the name confuse you, the school was for
girls, but the camp was co-ed). Now, Camp Lē‘ahi's new facility can be
found at Star Of The Sea Catholic school!
“I started as Camp Lē‘ahi's music instructor in 2004,” reminices Eric, “and
I realized that the program never had a theme song. So I wrote one and
presented it to camp director, Lionel Barona. He loved it!” The song was
presented at the program's end-of-summer finale event, where the children
were taught the song to perform for their parents, families and friends in
attendance. It was such a success, the thought of recording it was the next
logical step.
The following year, the CD single was presented as part of the tuition
package for the camper to have as a souvenir of their experience at camp.
Parents and others who heard about the camp song recorded on CD bought
additional copies to share with their family members.
